Worcester Racing

A city built on the Severn; Worcester has played a significant part in forging the history of the nation. The site of the last battle of the English Civil War, there remains some incredible architecture, from the stunning Worcester Cathedral to the Tudor buildings in the city’s mediaeval centre. The home too of Royal Worcester porcelain, the city has balanced industry and commerce with some very fine green spaces and parks and on the south of the river lies Worcester Racecourse, a beautiful tree-lined track which attracts visitors for its pastoral appeal as much as its hosting of some excellent Worcester racing.

Worcester Racing, inside rail The racecourse stages only National Hunt fixtures but has the distinction of hosting jump racing throughout the summer as well as the during the hunt season, one of only six courses in the country to do so. In addition, fixtures are held on weekends, weekdays and evenings and so there are plenty of opportunities for the racegoing public to enjoy Worcester racing and with the quality of the racing on offer being of a notable high standard the fixtures are well attended. Worcester has a reputation as a good National Hunt trials course for novice hurdlers and chasers.

Large fields dominate the fixtures and make for some thrilling racing. The appeal for trainers is the layout of the track and the fences; an oval of just 13 furlongs, with easy bends and just nine fences split between the back straight and the home straight.

A place in which to spot future stars on the jumps, Worcester racing is very competitive, particularly in the handicap hurdles which attract big crowds as well as big fields.
